New Mexico lawmakers asked Texas for border help, despite Grisham’s criticisms | New Mexico
SUMMARY: New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham criticized Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s border security measures, despite New Mexico legislators visiting Texas to learn about border security just months earlier. Following Texas’s enhanced border operations, illegal crossings shifted west, heavily impacting New Mexico. In September, New Mexico had 7,893 apprehensions, surpassing Texas’s 1,142. While Abbott asserts Texas barriers deter crossings, Lujan Grisham’s commentary disregards her state‘s rising apprehension rates. Notably, New Mexico Senate Republicans sought insights from Texas officials to replicate their successful border strategies, emphasizing the effectiveness of Texas’s comprehensive approach to border security amidst escalating challenges.
