Tropical Storm Helene forms in Gulf of Mexico, heads toward Florida

SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Helene has formed in the of Mexico, with maximum sustained winds reaching 45 mph. Located about 170 miles southeast of western Cuba, Helene is expected to intensify into a hurricane as it moves northwest toward the Big Bend region of Florida. Though Mississippi will not face direct impacts, rain and wind from the storm will affect the , particularly northern , while coastal waters may see 2-4 waves and winds gusting up to 20 mph. The storm could reach a Category 3 level by landfall.
