Tribe members gather at USM for 18th annual Powwow
SUMMARY: For nearly two decades, USM has hosted a Powwow featuring traditional Native American dancing, arts, crafts, and food. Ralph Isaac, a member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, has participated every year to support students and share cultural traditions. Co-hosted by USM’s Center for American Indian Research and Studies and the Golden Eagle Intertribal Society, the event welcomes both Native and non-Native American attendees. Participants express excitement in sharing their culture, promoting understanding, and reducing bias. Tribes from Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana took part in the gathering, which also serves as an educational experience for the community.

Mississippi House Speaker Jason White talks about money issues facing the state

Netflix produces Tupelo-based crime documentary

Lamar County using grant to grow industrial park, create jobs
SUMMARY: Lamar County received a $50,000 State site development grant to enhance its industrial park, aiming to attract businesses and create jobs. The funds will be used for property surveys, construction planning, and land clearing. The park is one of three in Mississippi with over 20 developable acres, ready for use within six months or with utilities in place within a year.
