Travis County must release records to FOX 7 Austin after ruling | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Texas has robust laws mandating open meetings for public entities. The Texas Attorney General has accused the Travis County Commissioners of violating these laws during a March 19 meeting regarding a $15,000 budget adjustment for security enhancements, which was discussed in executive session. A public information request by Fox 7 sought details about the funding’s purpose, but the county withheld information citing potential threats to officials’ safety. The AG criticized the county for concealing decisions and lacking transparency. After another vote for $115,000 in security funding, the AG ruled that the county must release the requested information, which they have yet to do.

Travis County has yet to release records to FOX 7 after the Texas Attorney General ruled they must.

Muggy mornings this weekend with afternoon sunshine
SUMMARY: Expect muggy mornings this weekend with fog and mist, but afternoons will bring sunshine. Temperatures will reach 85 today and 87 tomorrow, with a small chance of a stray storm in the Hill Country tomorrow morning due to a dry line in West Texas. On Monday, a cool front will lower temperatures to 80, and Tuesday will see a high of 75. Warm weather returns mid-week with temperatures near 90°. The next potential rain event is expected between April 5th and 7th, depending on the position of a low-pressure system over Mexico, which could bring heavy rainfall.

Georgetown concerned affordable housing bill could hurt future of historic downtown
SUMMARY: Georgetown is concerned about a recently passed Texas Senate bill aimed at addressing affordable housing, fearing it may undermine its historic downtown. The city reported significant growth with nearly 12,000 new residents last year, but the bill, SB 840, could allow developers to convert commercial properties to residential without local rezoning, diminishing local control. Mayor Josh Schroer expressed worries this could negatively impact Georgetown’s historic area and prevent the collection of impact fees, placing financial burdens on current residents. While proponents argue it supports homeownership, local officials believe decisions should remain within the community.

This week, the state Senate passed a bill to help meet the demand for affordable housing in Texas. But, the City of Georgetown is asking the House to pump the breaks, fearing it could threaten the future of its historic downtown.

HPD update: 2 killed in crash caused by hit-and-run crash on Gulf Freeway
SUMMARY: A fatal hit-and-run accident occurred early this morning on the Gulf Freeway near Griggs, resulting in two female fatalities. Investigators believe the initial crash involved a black sedan, possibly rear-ended, which left the scene, leaving the vehicle stranded facing the wrong way. A female passenger in the sedan was either killed in the first impact or by a second collision. Two women in a Ford Explorer pulled over to assist, but as one exited, a blue sedan swerved and struck the stranded vehicle, killing the pedestrian. The male driver of the blue sedan was injured but is expected to survive.

Houston police said a hit-and-run crash disabled one vehicle on the freeway before another car crashed into the disabled vehicle.
