Travel warning issued in Mississippi county after reports of shootings
SUMMARY: Law enforcement in Coahoma County, Mississippi, is warning people to avoid the Friars Point area near Highway One due to multiple reported shootings from 8 p.m. till early morning. The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office believes the random attacks are gang-related. Residents are advised to leave the area and call 911. Though not officially confirmed by the sheriff, a family reported a fatal shooting, with the victim allegedly working in local farming. Debbie Watkins, a local resident, mentioned investigators were examining a crime scene nearby. Anyone affected should contact the sheriff’s office at 662-624-3085.

SUMMARY: Cristian Mitchel Mondragon Gonzales, 29, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder related to a 2018 homicide on the Natchez Trace Parkway. Following a fight at a party on September 23, 2018, Gonzales pursued the victim, convincing him to go for a ride. He then shot the victim multiple times after they exited the vehicle. The victim was found the next morning. Gonzales faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and is scheduled for sentencing on February 12, 2025. The case was investigated by the FBI, Natchez Trace Parkway police, and Ridgeland police.
