Tracking the Tropics: How common are November hurricanes?

SUMMARY: The last month of hurricane season in November could still bring storms due to warming ocean temperatures. Since record keeping began, 19 hurricanes have struck land in November. Most of these hurricanes reached major hurricane status. Last year, Hurricane Nicole made landfall in Florida, causing flooding and beach erosion. Despite an active season, just four storms reached the mainland United States and 11 veered out to sea. There are just two names left on this year’s list and long-range forecasts show very little tropical activity over the next two weeks. In 2021, the World Meteorological Organization created a supplemental list of names to be used in case the regular list was exhausted.

Calhoun City votes to allow sale of alcohol

How Isaac Smith became MSU’s top defender

SUMMARY: Isaac Smith, a safety for Mississippi State, emerged as a football standout at Itawamba Agricultural High School, attracting Division I offers. Coming from an athletic family, with his father playing at Ole Miss, Isaac’s first offer also came from there. However, he felt a strong connection with Mississippi State and its late coach Mike Leach, who he admired for his kindness, including attending a game when Isaac wasn’t playing.
