SUMMARY: Rob Kirkpatrick reports on the impending formation of a potential tropical cyclone in the Gulf of Mexico, which could develop into a named storm, likely “Francine,” by Wednesday afternoon. The system is monitored closely due to its projected landfall near New Orleans, with forecasters estimating it could reach category one hurricane status. The storm poses risks of heavy rain, wind gusts over 50 mph, coastal storm surges, and even tornado threats on its eastern side. WDSU has declared a weather alert day for Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of tracking the cyclone’s progression and impact.

Meteorologist Devon Lucie walks us through Potential Tropical Cyclone #6, where it is right now, what atmospheric conditions are favorable for its formation, what conditions aren’t, where it’s most likely to track, then dives into exactly what impacts are likely to affect Southeast Louisiana and New Orleans, how much rainfall is forecast, what the risk for other severe risks will be, and finishing with what the takeaways are for this system right now, and a final look at your entire 7 day forecat.
