Tracking Hurricane Milton: 12 p.m. NHC update

SUMMARY: A hurricane warning is in effect as Hurricane Milton, currently a Category 4, approaches the region. While it was a Category 5 earlier, it is weakening but poses risks of hurricane-force winds over 80 mph and potential tornadoes across South Florida. The system’s wind field is expanding, increasing the likelihood of significant rain and flooding, particularly in areas that flooded during Hurricane Ian. Residents should prepare their properties, as the storm’s core is expected between 3 a.m. and 10 a.m. tomorrow, with heavy rain and strong winds impacting the region, especially south of Tampa Bay.

12 p.m. Hurricane Milton update was released by the NHC. Milton currently 175 miles from Tampa.

Florida boasts record visitor numbers despite inflation, hurricanes | Florida

SUMMARY: In the third quarter of 2024, Florida welcomed 34.6 million visitors, marking a 1.7% increase over the previous record, despite hurricanes Debby and Helene. This follows strong tourism growth in the first two quarters, totaling 109.7 million visitors so far this year. Last year, over 140 million people visited, with 92.1% being domestic tourists. International traffic also rose by 1.8%. Florida’s tourism is supported by priorities like public safety and freedom. Notably, 38.1% of visitors traveled by air, with Orlando and Miami seeing the highest numbers of enplanements.
