‘Tough pill to swallow’: Lawsuit says Water Valley residents may have been poisoned for more than 50 years
SUMMARY: A lawsuit claims Water Valley residents were poisoned for over 50 years due to illegal disposal of trichlorethylene (TCE) by Holley Automotive Division, later known as Coltec, owned by EnPro Industries. This led to a “cancer cluster” with a higher incidence of cancer and other health issues. TCE, known for its toxicity since the 1950s, was used in the facility and improperly discarded, contaminating water and soil. Employees were exposed without protective gear, and waste was dumped recklessly. The suit seeks justice for hundreds of victims, and more cases are expected as the investigation continues. EnPro did not comment.

SUMMARY: Mississippi artists aged 21 and older have the chance to win $2,000 and be spotlighted at the state's largest art festival through the Blue Moon Art Project contest. Participants are required to submit a contemporary, museum-quality canvas (24″ x 36″) without beer bottles or text, inspired by the Blue Moon beer brand. Applications can be downloaded from the Peter Anderson Festival website and must be submitted with the artwork by October 4 at the Ocean Springs Chamber Main Street offices. The Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival will occur in downtown Ocean Springs on November 2-3.

SUMMARY: A manhunt in Harrison County concluded with the arrest of Bricen John Rivers, charged with one count of murder. Deputies responded to Wolf River Cemetery, where they found Rivers running into the woods. A deceased woman, 22-year-old Lauren Johansen of Gulfport, was found in the vehicle Rivers fled from. Johansen, reported missing July 2, attended school in Hattiesburg. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the search, ultimately locating Rivers and arresting him. He is held at Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $1 million bond.
