SUMMARY: Tonight’s video reveals the moment a Municipal Utility District water tank exploded, flooding two nearby homes. The Jennings family is suing their insurance company, Homeside Insurance, after repeated claim denials. Kevin Jennings expressed frustration, believing their damages of $160,000 should be covered under their policy. Meanwhile, the Steiner family is moving forward with repairs as their insurance cooperates. Despite providing evidence of the explosion, including video and affidavits, the Jennings are still in limbo while waiting for resolution. As the claims remain unresolved, the situation continues to be a significant struggle for the family.

SUMMARY: A Rowlette police officer, Isaac Gorski, rescued a suspected drunk driver, Lynn Allen Smith, who crashed into his squad car on Interstate 30. Despite being injured in the collision, Gorski shattered the car’s window to save the unresponsive driver, dragging him to safety away from danger. The incident occurred while Gorski was helping with traffic after a related police chase in Garland, where suspect Jose Andrew Yabara fled and later drowned in Lake Ray Hubbard. Gorski, an Army veteran and recent transfer from the Dallas Police Department, was later treated and released from the hospital.

Rowlett police say an injured officer whose squad car was hit by a suspected drunk driver managed to rescue that driver from his fiery vehicle. “Instead of doing a self-evaluation of his injuries, he doesn’t think twice; his law enforcement instinct kicks in.”

New Texas bill targets Project Connect, other tax rate election-funded capital projects

Published

on

www.kxan.com – Kelsey Thompson – 2025-03-06 10:45:00

SUMMARY: Rep. Ellen Troxclair filed House Bill 3879, the Texas Taxpayer & Voter Defense Act, which seeks to prevent tax-rate elections from funding large capital projects like Austin’s Project Connect light rail program. The bill targets perceived loopholes, including the lack of limits on project scope and cost changes after voter approval. It requires amendments to the Texas Tax Code to define projects that “materially deviate” from voter-approved plans. While not naming Project Connect directly, Troxclair criticized the program, citing legal challenges and significant changes to its scope. Similar legislation was introduced in 2023 but was not passed.
