First day of testimony in Carly Gregg trial
SUMMARY: The prosecution began the trial with three witnesses, starting with the 911 call made by Heath Smiley, Karlie Gregg’s stepfather, who reported that Gregg had shot her mother. The jury heard the call, during which Smiley was hysterical. The second witness, Rankin County Deputy Hunter Lewis, shared bodycam footage showing Smiley’s devastation upon finding his wife, Ashley, dead in their bedroom. The prosecution also called a minor friend of Gregg, who expressed concerns about her drug use and warned her mother but advised against confrontation to protect their identity.
