Friday will mirror this heat with temperatures again at 87°F, ideal for evening activities like Friday Night Football. The kickoff temperatures will be in the mid-80s, dropping to the lower 70s by halftime. The weekend will remain warm, with Saturday also hitting 87°F. A cold front on Sunday will bring cloud coverage and lower temperatures, around the lower 80s. Although fall colors are starting to appear, peak leaf change is expected in 1-2 weeks. Dry conditions persist in Mississippi and Alabama.

Tupelo waiting on Target to make decision on new store

Volunteers requested for local “Grow-a-Row” program to combat hunger

SUMMARY: A local nonprofit, Petal Healing Garden, is collaborating with the Forest County Agricultural Extension Office on the Grow a Row program to combat food insecurity. Volunteers can participate after completing a food safety course led by Jesse Tisdale. The program not only helps with food donations but also offers a chance for the community to reconnect with gardening, filling a gap left by the loss of agricultural education in local schools. Proceeds from the initiative will benefit the Edwards Street food pantry and the Petal Children’s Task Force in Hattiesburg.

One local agricultural extension office is teaming up with a local vegetable garden owner to train others on growing produce to combat hunger in the Pine Belt.
