Titanic expedition yields lost bronze statue, high-resolution photos and other discoveries
SUMMARY: RMS Titanic Inc. recently completed its first expedition to the Titanic wreck site since 2010, discovering a lost bronze statue, “Diana of Versailles,” last seen in 1986. This exploration, which lasted 20 days, captured over 2 million high-resolution images of the deteriorating site and mapped the wreck and debris field. However, the team reported the sad loss of a significant section of the ship’s bow railing, which had stood until 2022, underscoring the ongoing decay of the historic site. The findings aim to aid scientific understanding and future recovery efforts of historically significant artifacts.

Supreme Court denies appeal for man convicted in the 1992 killing of two college students
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Supreme Court has denied Willie Jerome Manning’s appeal against his 1994 death row conviction for the murders of two college students. Manning’s legal team argues that there is new evidence, including witness recantations and a lack of forensic links to the crime. Despite his attorney’s assertion that the court’s ruling disregards this evidence, the majority opinion stated that Manning has already received ample justice. Dissenting justices argued for a hearing to investigate the recantations. Manning’s lawyers have indicated intentions to pursue further legal options.
