This isn't the first time a president has dropped out

SUMMARY: President Biden’s decision to end his reelection campaign and endorse Kamala Harris marks a historic moment, as she would be the first female president if elected. Historian Jeff Engel notes this is a rare instance in presidential history of a sitting president stepping aside, highlighting figures like George Washington and Lyndon Johnson as precedents. Engel discusses the evolving nature of presidential nominations, with modern campaigns being protracted. If Harris secures the nomination, selecting a running mate will be crucial to balance the ticket. Additionally, while Harris appeals to younger voters and suburban women, she may face challenges related to gender and race in the election.

Lots of recent events will make the history books — former President Donald Trump’s attempted assassination and now President Joe Biden dropping out. But this isn’t the first time a sitting president has dropped out of the race for the White House. Presidential historian Jeff Engel shares more.

The tenant, who was facing eviction, was last seen before the fire, and detectives are now trying to locate him. The cause of death and identity of the remains are still under investigation by authorities.
