The power to appoint a new sheriff would go to the County Judge Executive. If Stein does not resign, the removal process could take up to six months and is not a criminal trial, but rather an assessment of whether removal is warranted. Meanwhile, Governor Basher is collaborating with the Chief Justice to form a panel recommending three candidates to replace Judge Mullins.

Gov. Beshear said on Thursday that if Stines does not resign, the governor does have the power to start a removal process.

SUMMARY: A new initiative called the More Safe Nights program is enhancing severe weather alerts for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing in Kentucky. Developed by the Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the Division of Emergency Management, the program honors the late ASL interpreter Virginia Moore. It provides specialized weather radios equipped with a pillow shaker and strobe light, allowing users to receive alerts through vibrations and visual cues. Initially, 700 radios are available for free on a first-come, first-serve basis to those with hearing loss. The initiative aims to raise more funding after distribution.

“This was her passion, and I’m glad that her memory is still alive as she continues to serve,” Moore’s widow Row Holloway shared tearfully at the lectern.
