The Mississippi Department of Transportation wants to make sure your trees make it home

SUMMARY: It’s time to start decorating for Christmas, and if you’re putting up a tree, the Mississippi Department of Transportation wants to make sure you do it safely. MDOT warns that incorrectly secured Christmas trees can pose a danger to drivers and others on the road. Triple A found that 16% of Americans experienced a Christmas tree falling out of their vehicle in 2019, resulting in 200,000 crashes, 39,000 injuries, and 500 deaths over a 4-year period. MDOT suggests using an appropriate vehicle, tying the tree down with strong rope, and driving slowly to prevent tree accidents. Make sure the bottom of the tree trunk points towards the front of the vehicle to reduce air resistance.

Christmas trees that are not secured properly put you and other drivers in danger.

Tupelo waiting on Target to make decision on new store
