‘The light works’: Workers reunite a year after 2022 Jackson water crisis
SUMMARY: Volunteers who helped during the 2022 water crisis in Jackson, Mississippi, returned to commemorate the anniversary of their work and see the improvements made at the city’s main water treatment plant. The crisis last year caused the shutdown of the plant, leading to pump failures, staffing shortages, and unsafe conditions. Volunteers addressed issues such as lack of lighting, broken equipment, and inadequate infrastructure. The event was organized by Interim Third-Party Manager Ted Henifin, who wanted to show volunteers the progress made and give them an opportunity to share stories. Over $600 million in federal funds have been allocated to restore the system.
