FEMA may be calling you to schedule home inspections
SUMMARY: FEMA may contact you to schedule a home inspection if you’ve applied for assistance. These calls may appear from unknown numbers or with no caller ID. If you miss the call, check your voicemail. Be cautious of fraud, as only FEMA can provide your 9-digit application number and will never ask for money or your full Social Security number. FEMA helps make homes livable again but doesn’t fully rebuild. Visit FEMA’s disaster recovery centers in various counties for assistance or apply online at disasterassistance.gov or through the FEMA helpline. FEMA works with local agencies and nonprofits to support recovery efforts.

Trump’s plan to dismantle the Education Department raises questions in West Virginia
SUMMARY: President Trump plans to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, believing this will benefit students by returning education control to the states. However, in West Virginia, concerns arise over the loss of federally-funded programs, such as special education aid and reading interventionists. Civics teacher Colin Henki fears this could destabilize local education and drive teachers away due to uncertainty. While Trump promises to preserve essential programs like Pell grants and funding for special needs, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morsy supports the plan, arguing that state control could improve educational outcomes. West Virginia ranked 48th in education in 2024’s Kids Count Data Book.
