Texas deadly shooting: Man cleared in fatal shooting of teen | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Video evidence played a crucial role in exonerating a 21-year-old man, Eric Marin, who was shot and killed in a neighborhood fight. On August 5th, during a confrontation between two groups, a juvenile drew a gun, prompting return fire. The 21-year-old subsequently seized the gun and fatally shot Marin. The Hayes County District Attorney’s Office, after reviewing the evidence, determined the shooting was justifiable as self-defense and in defense of a third person. A grand jury concurred, clearing him of murder charges, while the juveniles involved may still face legal consequences, with aims toward rehabilitation.
A Hays County Grand Jury has voted to “no-bill” the case against a 21-year-old man in the August 5 shooting of a teenager in Buda.

Trump directs feds to target cartels that threaten homeland security | National
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump has issued an executive order directing federal agencies to target foreign groups posing threats to U.S. citizens, specifically designating Mexican cartels, the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang, and Salvadoran MS-13 as foreign terrorist organizations. He asserts these cartels present a national security threat, engaging in violence and drug trafficking that destabilizes the Western Hemisphere and impacts the U.S. The order establishes a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, requiring relevant agencies to eliminate these organizations’ presence in the U.S. Trump acts following persistent calls from Texas Governor Greg Abbott and other Republican leaders for such measures.

AI controversy hits Oscars talk: ‘The Brutalist’ under fire
SUMMARY: As the 97th Academy Awards approach, controversy surrounds the use of AI in potential Best Picture contender *The Brutalist*. Directed by Brady Corbet, the film uses AI to enhance Hungarian accents and generate architectural drawings, sparking debate. Editor Dávid Jancsó explained AI’s role in perfecting accents and creating aged images, while Corbet clarified that AI did not alter performances or render buildings. Similar AI concerns arise with Netflix’s *Emilia Pérez*, where AI helped enhance the lead actress’s singing voice. AI’s impact on the industry remains contentious, especially regarding its potential to replace artists’ work.
“The Brutalist” is currently playing in theaters across the U.S. “Emilia Pérez” is available to stream with a Netflix subscription.

Legal experts warn of uncertainty over Trump’s partial repeal of birthright citizenship
SUMMARY: President Trump signed an order challenging birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to immigrants who are here illegally or temporarily. Legal experts argue that the move violates the 14th Amendment, which guarantees citizenship to anyone born in the U.S. Critics label it unconstitutional and racially discriminatory, pointing to past rulings affirming birthright citizenship. Although some believe the order will be overturned in court, there’s uncertainty due to a more conservative Supreme Court. Legal challenges are expected, with opponents seeking to block the order before it takes effect. Critics suggest Trump may use the issue to rally his supporters.
President Donald Trump followed through on a campaign promise Monday to move to remove the guarantee of citizenship for some children born on U.S. soil.
