Texas boy dies after his cries for medical help were ignored | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: The Texas Department of Health and Human Services shut down Thompson’s Residential Treatment Center in Greenville after finding it posed an immediate threat to children’s safety, following the death of an 11-year-old boy, referred to as “O”. He died after exhibiting signs of severe distress, including walking unsteadily before the movie “Gladiator 2.” Staff reportedly neglected his condition despite his complaints of pain and weakness. The facility had a troubling history, including past citations for facilitating fight clubs and misconduct. State officials are now considering fewer regulations on inspection processes despite these alarming incidents.

Signs, shirts at Mavs games will no longer lead to automatic ejection: sources
SUMMARY: During Monday’s game at the American Airlines Center, several Mavericks fans were ejected for criticizing team management with signs and shirts, including messages like “Fire Nico,” aimed at GM Nico Harrison after the trade of Luka Doncic. Mark Cuban appeared to be particularly triggered by the criticism. Fans reported being denied entry for wearing provocative apparel, leading to frustration among those who still support the team but dislike recent decisions. While some fans expressed disbelief at the trade, many others were focused on supporting the Mavericks. Signs of Warriors pride overshadowed Mavs supporters as Golden State visited.

Laser lab stashed beneath the University of Texas could power future space travel
SUMMARY: Phillip Franke at UT Austin’s TAU Systems explains laser physics as his team builds laser-plasma accelerators to strip electrons from atoms, simulating cosmic ray effects on electronics for space testing. Their technique uses ultra-short laser pulses that, after being manipulated, strike gas to create electron waves impacting electronics. This testing is crucial for developing advanced technologies for deep space, where current electronic systems are outdated. TAU received a DARPA contract to aid in testing electronics’ resilience against space conditions. Additionally, the Texas Space Commission is funding several aerospace companies to enhance the state’s space industry.

Brad Simpson’s next hearing scheduled for 30 days as evidence from Texas Rangers is gathered
SUMMARY: Brad Simpson, accused of murdering his wife, local real estate agent Suzanne Simpson, made his first court appearance in two months at the 437th district court. The brief five-minute hearing addressed a motion by Simpson’s attorneys to quash the indictment, citing vagueness. However, the case could not proceed as prosecutors still need to review approximately six terabytes of evidence and complete forensic testing. The hearing was rescheduled for another 30 days. Supporters of Suzanne Simpson gathered outside the courtroom, as Brad Simpson remains in custody facing murder and other charges.
