19 of 20 US counties with lowest health insurance coverage located in Texas

A recent study by SmartAsset revealed that many individuals are opting out of health insurance to save money. It ranked U.S. counties by the percentage of people under 65 without health coverage, with 19 of the top 20 counties being in Texas. In 2024, Hidalgo County had the highest uninsured rate at 32%, followed by Cameron and Webb counties. The study also highlighted counties with the lowest number of primary care physicians, such as Orange County, where 6,053 residents share one doctor.
