Tesla's self-driving system is under investigation | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Tesla‘s full self-driving feature is under federal investigation following reports of at least four crashes, including a fatal incident involving a pedestrian. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) noted these incidents occurred in low visibility conditions. Despite Tesla stating the autopilot and self-driving features require driver supervision, this inquiry will assess their performance in reduced visibility and investigate similar crashes. The probe affects over 2 million Tesla vehicles. This investigation comes shortly after Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Cybercab, highlighting the challenges of launching autonomous vehicles without standard driving controls. Tesla had previously recalled 2 million cars for autopilot issues.
A federal investigation is underway into Tesla’s self-driving system due to concerns over its performance during reduced roadway visibility.
