Tennessee could resume executions by end of year
SUMMARY: Tennessee plans to resume executions by the end of this year after Governor Bill Lee paused them over two years ago due to lethal injection protocol violations. Department of Correction Commissioner Frank Strada informed lawmakers that a new execution protocol is being developed. The state halted executions after discovering it was not testing lethal injection drugs as required. With 45 inmates on death row, many victim families are still awaiting justice. Strada clarified that delays were due to regulatory collaborations rather than drug supply issues, emphasizing the need for rigorous and lawful protocols.
After a more than two-year pause, Tennessee could resume executing prisoners on death row by the end of this year, according to the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Correction, Frank Strada.
