Tennessee clerk’s office admits mistake in releasing accused murderer
SUMMARY: Lauren Johansson, a 22-year-old nursing student, was tragically murdered by her abusive ex-boyfriend, Bryson Rivers. Her father, Lance Johansson, blames the Nashville criminal justice system for this preventable death. Rivers had previously been arrested in Nashville for severely beating Lauren and was charged with aggravated kidnapping and stalking. Despite this, Rivers’ bond was lowered, and he was released without being properly fitted with a GPS monitor due to an error by the Davidson County Clerk’s Office. This allowed Rivers to escape to Mississippi, where he ultimately killed Lauren. Lance Johansson criticizes the systemic failures that led to his daughter’s tragic death.
