Tax reform, other bills advance in first week of special session | Louisiana
SUMMARY: During Louisiana’s special legislative session, lawmakers advanced significant bills to reform the state’s tax code and juvenile prosecution laws, introducing a total of 31 bills. Governor Jeff Landry emphasized the importance of adopting his entire tax reform package, which includes a proposed flat 3% income tax rate and has seen support from both the House Ways and Means and Appropriations Committees. However, some legislators, including Rep. Mandie Landry, raised concerns about proposed expansions of taxed goods and services. Additionally, House Bill 7 seeks to amend the state constitution regarding tax exemptions while addressing teacher pay raises.
