Chief Meteorologist Chris Justus tracks Hurricane Milton
SUMMARY: A major storm with winds reaching up to 165 mph is heading toward the U.S. coast, prompting evacuation recommendations. The storm, undergoing an eyewall replacement cycle, may strengthen again. Forecasts predict it will make landfall as a Category 4 or possibly a Category 3 hurricane, particularly affecting the Tampa Bay area. The storm is unique as it moves eastward, unlike typical storms, which affects the storm surge locations, with Sarasota and Fort Myers at risk. Cooler temperatures are expected in the Upstate region, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s over the coming days.

Hurricane Milton, a Category 5 storm, continues to strengthen
SUMMARY: Hurricane Milton, currently a Category 5 with winds at 180 mph, will not affect our region but is expected to hit Florida, particularly Tampa Bay, late tomorrow into Wednesday. Despite potential weakening, models indicate it may remain a strong hurricane through landfall, posing risks to areas from Big Bend to Fort Myers. Locally, we will experience pleasant weather with temperatures cooling into the low to mid-70s this week, and no rain anticipated. A cold front will bring lower temperatures, with Friday expected to be particularly cool, reaching 48°F in the mornings and highs around 68°F.
Hurricane Milton continues to strengthen Monday over very warm water in the Gulf of Mexico.
