Security drones based out of Austin could help school districts comply with campus security law | FO
SUMMARY: Texas state law requires public schools to have at least one armed security guard during school hours, with exceptions allowed for funding or personnel shortages. SB1262, proposed by Senator Robert Nichols, ensures such waivers are temporary and must be renewed annually. The bill also introduces new reporting on intruder detection and vulnerability assessments. A new drone system, Campus Guardian Angel, was introduced to help schools comply. These drones, armed with non-lethal devices, could serve as a proactive response until law enforcement arrives. The system is being tested by Bernie ISD and demonstrated at a private school soon.

State lawmakers were told a new security drone system, based in Austin, could help school districts comply with a new campus security law.

Amendments coming to Houston's proposed short-term rentals ordinance
SUMMARY: Houston residents voiced their concerns today at City Hall regarding a proposed short-term rentals ordinance, which aims to regulate the industry amid issues of rowdy parties and public disturbances. Public feedback indicated dissatisfaction with the current draft, prompting city council members to consider amendments. While residents worry the ordinance may not sufficiently penalize bad operators, representatives for rental operators caution against overly punitive measures that could harm responsible landlords. The council plans to meet again tomorrow to discuss amendments, allowing further community input on the regulations intended to balance economic benefits with neighborhood safety.
