Suspect in Jackson apartment shooting escapes custody

SUMMARY: Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones has released a photo of 25-year-old shooting suspect Ammini Ubala, who escaped custody after shooting an 18-year-old victim. Ubala was briefly detained and partially handcuffed before escaping in a deputy’s vehicle during transport. He was last seen in red pants and black flipflops, standing 6’1″. Ubala has a criminal history, having been arrested for murder and shooting in an occupied vehicle in August 2020. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Hinds County deputies at 601-352-1521. Ubala is currently out on a $100,000 bond.
