SUMMARY: Tennessee lawmakers are debating a bill that would allow local school districts to refuse enrollment of undocumented students. Proponents argue that the decision should rest with local education agencies, emphasizing the enforcement of proof of citizenship alongside residency and immunization requirements. However, Democrats oppose the bill, asserting that it undermines education rights for all children, regardless of immigration status. Protesters, including students and educators, have voiced concerns, deeming the legislation an attack on values and children’s freedom to learn. The bill, known as HB 793, recently passed a committee vote of 5-3 and will advance to the full education committee.

Experts attribute this decline to vaccine hesitancy, despite reassurance that the MMR vaccine is safe. Doctors emphasize the importance of vaccination for protecting vulnerable populations, including immunocompromised children, and encourage parents to consult with healthcare providers about vaccination concerns.

City leaders report a slow response, fearing the message about the census’s significance hasn’t reached residents. Murfreesboro, located in a rapidly growing county, is potentially missing out on $3.5 million annually if recent growth isn’t accounted for. Firefighters will visit neighborhoods to encourage participation, targeting approximately 100,000 residents yet to respond. Completing the census takes under two minutes and can also be done online.
