SUMMARY: Sundews are fascinating carnivorous plants that capture insects using sticky glands on their leaves, which glisten in the sun – hence their name. The sticky substance, combined with nectar, attracts and traps prey, leading to digestion through a slow chemical reaction that curls the leaves around the victim. is home to at least four species of sundews, found in wet pine forests, savannas, and near ponds and bogs. These include the Pink Sundew, Dwarf Sundew, Spoonleaf Sundew, and Threadleaf Sundew, each with distinct features and habitats. Alongside sundews, Butterworts also trap insects with a sticky substance on their leaves. It’s suggested that these botanical traps may have inspired human-made flypaper.
