Sunday 5 PM Tropical Update: Development possible this week
SUMMARY: The tropical outlook currently highlights a disturbance with a medium chance of developing as it moves into the Southwest Atlantic later this week. However, models show poor agreement on its evolution. The European model suggests the system could strengthen and curve around a high-pressure area, while the GFS model presents a less organized system potentially bringing moisture to the Yucatan instead. A key high-pressure pattern and an eastern US trough may influence its trajectory. Although the system poses no immediate threat to the Gulf Coast, more activity is expected as the peak of the season approaches in mid-September.
Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford has a look at the tropics on Sunday evening, July 28, 2024.
