'Sumner 2050' serving as blueprint for growth
SUMMARY: SAR County leaders are seeking community input for an updated land plan, SAR 2050, intended to guide future growth in unincorporated areas. The last plan, SAR 2035, was developed in 2010, and rising population and development concerns have prompted the revision. With around 400 square miles of unincorporated land and a population exceeding 60,000, residents are encouraged to participate in the planning process, despite feelings of powerlessness regarding rapid growth. Over 500 residents have already completed the survey, which closes in mid-March, aiming to collect valuable feedback for the county’s long-term development strategy.

Even total newbies are welcome at this grassroots hip-hop songwriting camp in Nashville
SUMMARY: Top Track Studios in South Nashville recently hosted ca.mp3, a dynamic weekend music-making meetup organized by independent musician Jack Vinoy. Designed to foster creativity among R&B and hip-hop artists lacking industry connections, the event allowed participants to collaborate freely, diverging from Nashville’s typical recording culture. Vinoy, inspired by personal experiences, aims to build a supportive community where everyone’s creative input is valued. Attendees, including seasoned producers and newcomers, produced around 40 songs during the event. The weekend culminated in a beat battle and song contest, highlighting the importance of collaboration over commercial outcomes and encouraging ongoing partnerships among participants.

TN bill would strengthen penalties for nonconsensual camera recordings
SUMMARY: A Nashville man, Matthew Vollmer, allegedly recorded numerous women without their consent using a hidden camera inside an alarm clock. Due to the expired statute of limitations, many victims were unable to pursue charges. In response, the Tennessee legislature introduced the Voyeurism Victim’s Act, which could allow victims to file charges based on when the recordings were discovered, extending the statute of limitations. This bill, supported by State Senator Jeff Yarbro, also seeks to elevate unlawful photography from a misdemeanor to a felony in severe cases. Activist Erika Thomas hopes the legislation will aid future victims in seeking justice.
