Summer tourism bringing success so far for Ship Island Excursions

SUMMARY: Ship Island Excursions, a popular tourist attraction, has seen a bounce back in business after a difficult three-year period. From 2019-2021, the attraction challenges the Bonnet Carre Spillway opening, , and damages from Hurricane Zeta. These factors prevented service to the island in 2021. However, the weather has played a big role in bringing visitors back this year. Despite the hot and dry conditions, the business has benefited from favorable weather. Ship Island Excursions is optimistic about the upcoming summer season and expects to collect the necessary data within the next 18 months.

According to Captain Louis Skrmetta, an average of about 300 passengers are taken to the island per day.
