Studio 9 Interview: Faith Haven to hold third tournament to benefit children

SUMMARY: Faith Haven, an emergency shelter for abused, abandoned, and neglected , has been providing 24-hour care since 1977. This nonprofit, serving Mississippi, helps children placed in Child Protective Services for 45 days, addressing their physical, mental , and educational needs. To their mission, Faith Haven is hosting a golf tournament on September 26th at Ponon Country Club. The aims to raise funds and educate the community about their services. Additionally, volunteers are needed to spend time with the children, especially positive male role models, to them cope and rebuild their lives.

Faith Haven is hosting its third Tee it Up for the Kids Golf Tournament.

Hub City Special Olympics returns to PCS campus

SUMMARY: Kids from the Pine Belt showcased their talents at the annual Hub Special Olympics held at Presbyterian Christian School. Over 200 volunteers helped organize activities like softball, cornhole, and soccer, creating a memorable experience for participants. This , returning after three years, was inspired by a local pediatrician’s son and aims to involve the community in supporting athletes with developmental disabilities. Gareth Bonner from PCS emphasizes the importance of service in the community. Moving forward, top performers may advance to district and regional competitions. The next special Olympics will take place at Camp Shelby from November 1st to 3rd, 2024.

Town of Sumrall has several public projects under way at same time

Federal funding to help Lamar, Perry counties bolster law enforcement staffs

SUMMARY: New federal are enabling Lamar and Perry counties in the Pine Belt to hire additional enforcement . The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office will employ four new deputies, funded by a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Justice Department, aimed at enhancing response times for service calls. Perry County will use a $250,000 grant to hire two deputies, addressing the challenges of its large, rural landscape. Both counties are required to contribute matching fundsโ€”38% for Lamar and 32% for Perry. Montgomery County also received a grant for one additional officer at nearly $97,000.
