Students given chance to read their writings aloud in Tupelo

SUMMARY: The winners of this year’s Gum Tree Youth Writing Competition read their work aloud today. Contest Coordinator Amy Wyatt mentioned that the writing competition has been ongoing for around 30 years and this is the second year collaborating with the Link Center. Students could write poetry or narratives, often focusing on family in lower grades and fiction based on personal importance in higher grades. Wyatt emphasized that everyone has a story to tell and writing is a wonderful way to express oneself. The students’ writings are published and available at the Gum Tree Museum of Art.
