Strange but true: Herricanes take Hurricane to court over ‘windy’ name
SUMMARY: In 1978, Houston faced a peculiar sports dispute involving two teams using the name “Hurricanes.” The North American Soccer League’s Houston Hurricanes emerged after a fan-based naming contest, while a women’s tackle football team, also named the Hurricanes, claimed prior use of the name. The soccer team’s general manager argued that the shared name would hinder marketing efforts. Following a two-day courtroom hearing, a Texas judge sided with the soccer team. Ultimately, both teams struggled, with the women’s team folding within a year and the soccer team ceasing after three seasons. This unique rivalry is now the focus of a documentary debuting at River Oaks Theater.
The Herricanes claimed the Hurricane was informed of the Herricanes before the name Hurricane was chosen by the fans.

Texas sues administration for not verifying voter registration citizenship info | Texas
SUMMARY: Texas has filed a lawsuit against the Biden-Harris administration for failing to provide requested citizenship status information about registered voters, as required by federal law. This follows similar actions by Florida and a coalition of states, which aim to remove noncitizens from voter rolls. Attorney General Ken Paxton argues that the federal government is obstructing efforts to ensure election integrity, emphasizing that nearly 454,289 registered voters in Texas lack verified citizenship. The lawsuit claims violations of multiple federal laws and requests a court order for compliance to secure Texas elections. Early voting in Texas is currently underway.
