SUMMARY: Dozens of children participated in the first event this year celebrating Black History Month at the African-American Military History Museum. Kids from a couple of Hub City daycare centers took part in “Storytime with a Soldier” this morning. During the event, National Guard Master Sergeant Torrence Green read from the children’s book “Charlie Parker Played Be-Bop.” The youngsters also got a tour of the museum and tried on some military uniforms. The goal was to expose the children to the military, our history, and provide an opportunity to meet and interact with a veteran while learning more about African-American history and culture. Several other events celebrating Black History Month will take place at the museum and the nearby Eureka School, with the national theme this year being African-Americans and the military.
