Stephan Sterns sex crimes trial pushed back to July
SUMMARY: The trial for Stephan Sterns, accused of killing and sexually abusing 13-year-old Mattie Sodto, has been postponed to July. The delay stems from legal disputes over evidence, particularly regarding the warrantless seizure of Sterns’ phone. Investigators found photos and videos on the phone, allegedly showing years of abuse. Sterns’ defense argues that he only consented to a limited search of certain apps, claiming law enforcement overstepped. The judge is set to decide whether to allow this evidence in the trial, which will now take place in July.

Stephan Sterns claims sexual abuse evidence should be thrown out of his trial because he claims to have not given officials permission to search his phone. A judge will issue a written ruling and any other motions by June 30. The trial has been reset until July. FOX 35’s Randi Hildreth has the latest updates on the case from the courthouse.

Lawsuit says migrants endure isolation and intimidation at US’ Guantanamo detention center
SUMMARY: Immigration and civil rights advocates are expressing renewed concerns over the treatment of immigrants detained at Guantanamo Bay. A recent lawsuit filed on behalf of two Nicaraguans alleges that detainees face extreme isolation and limited access to legal counsel, creating a climate of “fear and intimidation.” This environment, described as more restrictive than other facilities, undermines their constitutional rights. Attorneys report that legal communications are not confidential, as detainees are restrained during calls. Testimonies reveal fears of monitoring and reprisals. Advocates are seeking judicial intervention for the rights of future immigrant detainees at Guantanamo amid increased deportations.
