Stennis Space Center nears end of certification process for NASA Artemis moon missions

SUMMARY: NASA is nearing the completion of its engine testing for the Artemis moon missions, with the Mississippi Gulf Coast playing a crucial part. A significant test series for the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket’s RS-25 engines commenced at Stennis Space Center. Recently, a successful full-duration hot fire test marked the 11th out of 12 planned tests to certify new RS-25 engines. These engines, manufactured by Aerojet Rocketdyne, an L3 Harris Technologies company, will propel future Artemis missions, beginning with Artemis V. The SLS rocket, powered by four RS-25 engines and two solid rocket boosters, will generate over 8.8 million pounds of thrust at lift-off.

3 Mississippi hospitals approved for demonstration program intended to stave off closures

MAIS approves consolidated classes, revamped playoff format for 2025-2027 seasons

SUMMARY: Starting in the 2025-26 athletic calendar, the Mid-South Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) will restructure its competitive field, reducing from six classes to four to enhance competitive balance and expand championship opportunities. In 11-man football, classes 4A, 3A, and 2A will compete in multiple districts, with playoffs organized into divisions based on schools’ power point averages. Class 4A features three playoff divisions, while classes 3A and 2A have two divisions each. A majority of teams in each class will qualify for championship contention. Class 1A will compete in 8-man football with two divisions. MAIS includes 120 schools across four states and over 40,000 students.
