Stennis Space Center names Biloxi native as deputy director
SUMMARY: NASA’s Stennis Space Center has named Christine Powell as its new deputy director, starting August 12. Stennis Director John Bailey praised Powell’s extensive experience and leadership in propulsion testing. Currently managing the Rocket Propulsion Test Program Office, Powell oversees $3.5 billion in assets and a $48 million budget. She is the first woman to hold this deputy director position at Stennis, which is the nation’s largest propulsion test site. A 33-year NASA veteran, Powell began as an intern and has held various leadership roles, including chief of the Systems Engineering Branch. She holds degrees from Mississippi State University and the University of New Orleans.
