State program provides Uber rides for appointments

SUMMARY: The Mississippi State Department of Health has launched a free transportation program to assist patients in reaching County Health departments and pharmacies for medical appointments or prescriptions. Partnering with Uber, the initiative allows adults over 18 to schedule rides at least 30 minutes prior to their appointments, accommodating up to four passengers. Since its inception, 892 rides have been scheduled, with significant usage among university students. However, the program needs more drivers, particularly in rural areas, to expand its reach. Patients can arrange rides in-person or by calling the local Health Department at 601-261-050.

Tupelo waiting on Target to make decision on new store

Volunteers requested for local “Grow-a-Row” program to combat hunger

SUMMARY: A local nonprofit, Petal Healing Garden, is collaborating with the Forest County Agricultural Extension Office on the Grow a Row program to combat food insecurity. Volunteers can participate after completing a food safety course led by Jesse Tisdale.
