State Board of Education names Dr. Lance Evans State Superintendent of Education

SUMMARY: Dr. Lance Evans, the superintendent of the New Albany School District, has been chosen as the next state superintendent of education by the Mississippi State Board of Education after a national search. Dr. Evans is a 24-year veteran educator who has led the New Albany School District since 2017, achieving an A rating for the district. He will assume the position on July 1, 2024. The Board worked with McPherson & Jacobson, LLC to conduct the search and selected Dr. Evans as the finalist. The firm issued a statewide survey to collect public input about the desired characteristics of the next state superintendent.
