Pickens Co. faces possibility of losing ambulance service
SUMMARY: Pickens County, Alabama, faces a critical shortage in emergency medical care. The county’s ambulance service, which once had two ambulances thanks to a temporary subsidy, is now down to one due to funding cuts. With no more subsidy funds, the service faces closure on December 1 unless they can secure funding to continue paying staff raises. This shortage not only affects emergency calls but also vital patient transport, including those needing dialysis and doctor visits. Local police are stepping in to provide emergency services, but without more ambulances, response times could rise significantly. County officials are seeking solutions.
