Starkville firefighters take on role of story tellers in the community
SUMMARY: Firefighters in Starkville, Mississippi teamed up with Modern Woodmen of America and the Starkville Area Arts Council to read to children and let them meet the people who come to their rescue in emergencies. The firefighters dressed up as storytellers and read “Firefighters to the Rescue” to the children. The event aimed to bring new people into the Arts Council’s space and promote children’s literacy. One parent mentioned that it was important for children to learn that firefighters and other emergency personnel are there to help in times of need. The event was well-received and helped fuel children’s fascination with firefighters.

SUMMARY: On October 5, a two-vehicle crash in Jones County, Mississippi, resulted in three injuries. The accident occurred around 5:15 p.m. near the 3700 block of Sharon Road, involving a Chevrolet sedan and a Toyota sedan. Firefighters found the Chevy blocking the road and had to use hydraulic equipment to free its driver, who sustained serious injuries; two others had minor to moderate injuries. Witnesses reported that one vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic, leading to an offset head-on collision. Authorities from the Jones County sheriff’s office and Mississippi Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.
