Construction comes to a close on I-70 Missouri River Bridge
SUMMARY: Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced the completion of a new bridge on Interstate 70, which will significantly improve traffic flow, accommodating nearly 50,000 vehicles daily. This bridge replaces a 60-year-old structure rated in poor condition and is the first step in a larger project to widen I-70 between Wentzville and Blue Springs. The $240 million project includes two new bridges with three lanes in each direction, enhancing safety and addressing a key bottleneck in the national freight network. The project is a vital part of Missouri’s infrastructure improvements, with the second bridge expected to be open by spring.

Missouri study highlights barriers to breastfeeding • Missouri Independent
SUMMARY: Katie Burnham Wilkins gave birth on the day the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, facing challenges like limited in-person support for breastfeeding. As her daughter struggled to latch, her community rallied with experienced helpers, including a retired midwife and lactation consultants. A Saint Louis University study highlighted that many mothers lacked this support, with some resorting to formula due to the pandemic’s constraints. Factors impacting breastfeeding included workplace conditions, childcare availability, and societal stigma, especially for mothers of color. Advocacy for universal paid parental leave and better workplace accommodations for nursing mothers remains critical for successful breastfeeding experiences.
