Mississippi House passes pharmacy benefit manager transparency bill
SUMMARY: A bill passed in the Mississippi House aims to increase transparency for pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) by requiring them to report data to the Board of Pharmacy. The bill prohibits PBMs from overcharging insurers for drugs and mandates reports on rebates, affiliations, and drug costs. It also allows the Board to issue subpoenas during audits. Despite passing with strong support (88-8), critics, including independent pharmacists, argue it doesn’t sufficiently protect smaller pharmacies or provide enough enforcement power. Some advocates push for a standardized drug pricing model, but House Speaker Jason White remains opposed to it at this time.
