St. Louis forecast: Showers arrive by Saturday evening
SUMMARY: Meteorologist Jim Castillo forecasts a cloudy Saturday with temperatures staying in the 80s due to a low-pressure system causing moisture influx from the Gulf. Showers are likely, especially in southern counties, progressing northward into the St. Louis area. The potential for isolated storms exists but severe weather is not anticipated. Rain chances persist through Tuesday, with higher temperatures expected next week, reaching the low 100s on Wednesday. Humidity will remain high, though any storms could mitigate heat advisories. The 7-day outlook predicts scattered showers and temperatures in the 80s, indicating a warm pattern ahead.

Child care providers owed thousands in delayed subsidiesย
SUMMARY: Childcare providers are facing financial difficulties due to delays in state subsidy payments, exacerbated by a software transition at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This transition has caused communication issues, leading to slow processing of subsidy claims, with providers owed substantial amountsโone reported $17,000. Families already qualified for care cannot secure spaces, impacting availability due to half-capacity operations. While the state is offering additional American Rescue Plan funds to help, providers argue it’s insufficient to cover their losses, prompting calls for consistent monthly payments from the state to stabilize their finances amid ongoing difficulties.
Lisa Scheer at Baden Christian Child Care Center says most of the families they serve need help paying for child care. Their tuition is supposed to be paid for through state subsidies.ย
