SUMMARY: A weather impact alert has been issued for St. Louis, warning of severe thunderstorms Friday night from 6 PM into the overnight hours. Residents should prepare for potential hail, strong winds, and tornadoes. It’s recommended to identify safe places, such as windowless rooms, and clear clutter from those areas. A warm stretch of weather has contributed to this risk, as highs reached 80°F, well above the seasonal average. The storms are expected to affect travel in the Gulf states over the weekend. Gusts may reach 60 mph, prompting residents to secure outdoor items in anticipation of the dangerous weather.

Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 2 St. Louis – 2025-03-12 06:36:03

SUMMARY: Southwest Airlines has announced it will start charging for checked bags as of May 28, ending a 50-year tradition of allowing passengers to check two bags for free. This decision has sparked significant backlash on social media, with many expressing their disappointment as free checked bags were a key reason for flying Southwest. The policy change targets those not in the higher tiers of the Rapid Rewards loyalty program, business class ticket holders, or Southwest credit card users. Many users suggest raising ticket prices instead to avoid complaints over baggage fees. Responses will be shared on the Blair Social Second segment.

fox2now.com – Megan Mueller – 2025-03-11 14:37:00

SUMMARY: Bob Cassilly, creator of St. Louis’ City Museum, made headlines well before his museum opened in 1997. During his honeymoon in Rome in May 1972, he intervened in a shocking incident involving Hungarian geologist Lazlo Toth, who attacked Michelangelo’s La Pietà with a hammer, causing severe damage. Cassilly leapt to stop Toth, preventing further destruction. Toth was deemed “socially dangerous” and held in a mental hospital for two years. The statue was restored within a year and placed behind bulletproof glass. Interestingly, the recent film “The Brutalist” shares Toth’s name coincidentally, as it’s a common name in Hungary.
