SUMMARY: Meetings for the special alderman election in Petal have not been set yet, but starting tomorrow, forms for those who want to run will be available at Petal City Hall until January 17th at 5pm. Voting will only take place in Ward 2, and the election is on February 6th. Candidates must run as independents and gather 50 signatures of registered voters. Petal Mayor Tony Ducker says the earlier signatures are turned in, the sooner they can be checked. There is a little bit of heartburn over the required number of legitimate signatures, but they are excited about the election and urge potential candidates to be ready to work and serve the people. The voting location has not been released yet.

Jackson Democratic mayoral primary heads to runoff

Published

www.youtube.com – WJTV 12 News – 2025-04-02 19:48:19

SUMMARY: In Jackson’s Democratic mayoral primary, Senator John Horn nearly avoided a runoff despite low voter turnout. Horn will face incumbent Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba in a runoff on April 22nd, after securing over 7,000 more votes than Lumumba. Many voters, including some who typically lean Republican, supported Horn for his hard campaigning and ability to get things done. However, Horn’s vote share fell short of the 50% needed to avoid a runoff. The winner of the runoff will advance to the June 3rd general election. Voters are seeking a mayor who is transparent and effective in managing city resources.
