Southern Miss men’s basketball steamrolled by South Alabama 83-64
SUMMARY: The Southern Miss men’s basketball team underperformed in a 83-64 loss against South Alabama, remaining scoreless for almost five minutes initially. Despite having a healthy roster, Southern Miss struggled offensively, shooting poorly both from the field and three-point range, and turned the ball over frequently. Samuel Tabe scored 29 points for South Alabama, who executed one of their best offensive performances of the season. Interim head coach Juan Cardona, managing for Jay Ladner during his medical leave, admitted there were no excuses for the team’s poor performance and emphasized the need to regain chemistry. Victor Hart led Southern Miss with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Golden Eagles aim to improve before the Sun Belt Conference tournament. They next play Louisiana on senior night.

Supreme Court leaves in place Mississippi’s voting bar for people convicted of some crimes
SUMMARY: The Supreme Court upheld Mississippi’s practice of permanently denying voting rights to individuals convicted of certain felonies, including nonviolent crimes like forgery and timber theft. The Court rejected an appeal from residents who had completed their sentences but could not regain their voting rights. The ruling supported the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which stated the decision to restore voting rights lies with state legislators, not the courts. Critics argue the law is a remnant of segregation, disproportionately affecting Black residents. Restoring voting rights requires a governor’s pardon or legislative approval, but it is rarely granted.
