SUMMARY: The Southern Miss men’s basketball team underperformed in a 83-64 loss against South Alabama, remaining scoreless for almost five minutes initially. Despite having a healthy roster, Southern Miss struggled offensively, shooting poorly both from the field and three-point range, and turned the ball over frequently. Samuel Tabe scored 29 points for South Alabama, who executed one of their best offensive performances of the season. Interim head coach Juan Cardona, managing for Jay Ladner during his medical leave, admitted there were no excuses for the team’s poor performance and emphasized the need to regain chemistry. 3 Mississippi hospitals approved for demonstration program intended to stave off closures
SUMMARY: U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith announced that Greenwood Leflore, Magee General, and Wayne General hospitals in Mississippi were approved for the Rural Hospital Demonstration program. This initiative, which aims to support rural healthcare sustainability, will provide these hospitals with better federal reimbursements to help keep them open. Hyde-Smith, alongside Sen. Roger Wicker and Rep. Bennie Thompson, worked to secure this approval, particularly for Greenwood Leflore, a hospital central to Mississippi’s rural healthcare challenges. The program, established in 2004, helps small hospitals with cost-based reimbursements, improving their financial stability and ability to offer quality care.
